The Hermitage of the Magdalene

It is interesting for its portico, which is reminiscent of the funeral chapels of some cemeteries, for example Amorebieta or Balmaseda.

It has a rectangular nave, a circular apse and an apex roof with the bell housing made of  wood. The portico is supported by two columns and two pillars of hewn stone.

The primitive Hermitage of the Magdalene was constructed at the beginning of the  XIX century, when the  French troops garrisoned in the town decreed that the cemeteries, that up till then had been in the porticos of Santa Maria and Santa Ana, were to be relocated outside the centre of the town. The Hermitage of the Magdalene was then built where the cemetery once stood.
