FOR THE LOVE OF ROSE : A JOURNEY IN THREE WORLDS
Hace algunos meses nos visitaron en Durango Betty Lou Kishler y Robert Egby, una pareja de viajeros del estado de Nueva York que vinieron para conocer Durango y las huellas dejadas en la villa por el bombardeo de 1937.
Robert Egby estaba entonces preparando una novela que se desarrollaba parcialmente en Durango y sus alrededores durante la Guerra Civil. Se trata de una novela de amor situada en un contexto histórico real, ya que el autor visitó personalmente los lugares descritos en la novela y consultó archivos y bibliotecas durante su viaje en abril de 2014.
Su novela, titulada “For the love of Rose: a journey in three worlds” acaba de publicarse. En ella se cuenta la historia de amor entre Frank, un chico que vive apaciblemente en una granja, y Rose, una artista elegante, bella y culta de Nueva York. Esta cruza el Atlántico con su padre, cirujano, para ayudar en los hospitales de campaña durante la Guerra Civil, y Frank no tarda en emprender el viaje para poder encontrarse con ella.

FOR THE LOVE OF ROSE : A JOURNEY IN THREE WORLDS
Some months ago we received in Durango the visit of Betty Lou Kishler and Robert Egby, travelers coming from the state of New York, in the United States. They came to know our town, looking for the traces left by the bombings that took place in Durango in 1937.
At the moment, Robert Egby was preparing a novel set in the times of the Spanish Civil War in Durango and its surroundings. The novel has just been published and it is a romance located in a real historic context, considering that the author visited the places described in the text, and looked up information in archives and libraries during his visit to the Basque Country in April 2014.
Novel’s title is “For the love of Rose: a journey in three worlds”, the haunting love story of Frank, raised in Northern New York dairy farm and Rose, beautiful, elegant and sharp-tongued artist from Long Island’s elite. Rose accompanies his father, surgeon, to help in the understaffed field hospitals of the Civil War in Spain, and Frank decides to cross the Atlantic sea to meet her.
We are glad that the novel is set in Durango and we want to thank Betty Lou and Robert for the words dedicated to us in the book. Ancient photographs taken from the Municipal Historic Archives are included.

Duela hilabete batzuk Betty Lou Kishler eta Robert Egbyren bisita jaso genuen Durangon. Betty Lou eta Robert New Yorkeko Estatuan bizi dira, eta Durangora etorri ziren herria ezagutzeko eta baita 1937ean bertan izandako bonbardaketaren aztarnak ikusteko ere.
Robert Egbyk orduan Gerrate Zibila garaian Durangon eta inguruetan gertatzen zen eleberri bat prestatzen zebilen.Testuinguru historikoan kokatutako amodiozko eleberria da, autoreak 2014ko apirilean Euskal Herrian zehar egindako bidaian testuan deskribatutako lekuak bisitatu baitzituen, bai eta artxiboak eta liburutegiak kontsultatu ere.
Eleberriak “For the love of Rose: a journey in three worlds” du izenburu, eta argitaratu berri da. Bertan, Frank, baserri batetan bizi den mutil baten, eta Rose, New York hiriko artista eder, xarmagarri eta jantzi baten arteko amodiozko istorioa kontatzen da.
